This week’s show features: ASPCA / PawPlunger / Cool Dog

Listen NOW…

Picture_2.pngBrianne Leary, PawPlunger Creator and Co-Inventor, joins hosts Lisa Gorman and Scott Sheppard to discuss the details of how one messy pup inspired her to invent the PawPlunger.

Picture_1.pngThe PawPlunger is basically a spill-proof, mug shaped device that quickly cleans your dogs feet so your home or car stays clean and mud free!

Picture 4_1.pngSpecifically designed for mid to larger size dogs, this device virtually eliminates unwanted stains, mud, and mess that result from walking your dog in inclement or other weather and outdoor conditions. Rather than spend time and effort bathing or hosing your dog after their walk or playtime, with PawPlunger all you need to do is place each of their paws into the mug filled with warm water, built-in scrubbers to remove the dirt.

Find out more about PawPlunger at http://www.pawplunger.com

Lisa and Scott review current dog news and story highlights of the week. This week features:

Lisa delivers the Doggie Chronicles Tip of the Week about keeping your dog cool in the summer heat. Dogs can get heatstroke in a matter of minutes and their paws can burn easily when walking on the hot pavement. Be aware of the outside temperature when planning to take your dog outdoors in the warm summer months.

ASPCA_logo_02.jpgAllison Cardona, Program Director for ASPCA, joins Lisa and Scott to give The Doggie Chronicles an update on their activities. ASPCA is the oldest animal welfare organization in the US, and is based in NYC where they focus their efforts. The ASPCA has inspired national local chapters throughout America but their main offices and adoption center is located in Manhattan. Hear Allison discuss how to work with adoption centers and find the perfect dog for your space and needs.

Visit the ASPCA Website because it is full of very valuable information for your pets including the “Pet Safety Pack”, Animal Poison Control, and the Pet Food Recall Hotlines.

K9 Connection / Dog Park Safety / Petastic

Picture 1_1.pngAngie Gwiazdon, Founder of K9 Connection, joins hosts Lisa Gorman and Scott Sheppard to talk about her organization which brings people together on the basis of their pets. Whether it’s a love connection or a social gathering, K9 Connection puts together social and/or singles events that include a variety of fun activities for dogs and their people. The response from pet owners has been incredible as many consider their canines a great judge of character when meeting new people or potential mates.

canineAngie’s events are currently only available in the Minneapolis, MN area but hopefully will expand to other chapters nationwide soon. Organized event themes include; Speed Dating with your Dog!, Dog friendly Ice Cream Social, Beer with your Buddy, Perro Fiesta! (for Cinco de Mayo) and Luck of the Irish Yappy Hour (to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day).

To find out more about K9 Connection visit; http://www.k9-connection.com.

front0605.jpgLisa and Scott review current dog news and story highlights of the week including a report about a toy dog who was attacked in a local dog park because the owner let them loose among larger breeds and was attacked. The toy pup died on the way to the hospital. Another interesting news story involves a pup who now has his own attorney representing him while relatives of his deceased owner ignore a $2 million estate payout to engage in a bitter battle over the dog’s custody.

Lisa delivers the Doggie Chronicles Tip of the Week about ensuring your dog’s safety while spending time in the dog park. If you don’t want to learn a lesson the hard way heed the signs posted in the park for special areas designated for large or small dogs. If it’s the first few times you’re taking your dog to the dog park, try to go a few times during the day when there are less dogs around to make sure your pup feels comfortable. If your dog is overtired, don’t hesitate to leave the park as that is a time when it’s easier for them to initiate or participate in dog fights. Finally, trust your own instincts if you think it’s time for you and your pet to leave don’t stick around hoping there won’t be any incidents.

logolg.jpgJohn Vlahakis, President, Petastic Products joins The Doggie Chronicles to discuss his line of pet shampoo and cleaning products. John shares insights on how they develop their products which are excellent in removing odors from your favorite canine. Petastic also has a full line of pet laundry detergent products that work wonders in eliminating strange and unwanted smells from your pet’s blankets, toys, or even your own clothes - which is especially helpful after a return from kennel boarding or if your pet is a lap dog and frequently spends time on the owner’s clothes.

This week’s show features: Why Dogs Wag Their Tail / Bungee Pupee

Listen NOW…

iChat_Image_Cq9_.jpegSandra Blakeslee, Science writer for NY Times, joins hosts Lisa Gorman and Scott Sheppard to talk about her recent article titled “If you want to Know if Spot Loves You So, It’s in His Tail“. In her article she reports that recent studies have indicated that just like in humans the right vs. left brain conveys a difference in perceptions.

Picture_4.pngThe study showed that when observing a sample of dogs’ tail wagging it was obvious that in some circumstances the tail wagged more to one side or the other. The results indicated that when dogs feel fundamentally positive about something or someone, their tails wag more to the right side of their rumps. When they have negative feelings, their tail wagging is biased to the left.

The study was originally published in the March 20th issue of Current Biology, entitled, “Asymmetric tail-wagging responses by dogs to different emotive stimuli” The authors are Giorgio Vallortigara, a neuroscientist at the University of Trieste in Italy, and two veterinarians, Angelo Quaranta and Marcello Siniscalchi, at the University of Bari, also in Italy.

Lisa and Scott review current dog news and story highlights of the week including a man who went to jail and received significant fines for starving his dog.

Lisa delivers the Doggie Chronicles Tip of the Week about sun protection for your dog. Recent studies show that dogs like humans are susceptible to skin cancer and should be kept out of direct sun or protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Light haired dogs or dogs with little or short hair should be especially careful.

LOGO_TOP_CART.gifLawrence Kokonis, Bun-Gee Pup-EE joins the Doggie Chronicles to discuss their innovative expandable dog leash. Based on the weight of your dog, Bun-Gee Pup-EE has an appropriate level of resistance which ultimately trains your dog not to tug or pull while walking your pet.
45bluegold.jpgThe leash is incredibly durable and protects owners from sudden injuries while with their pet. The leash is especially great for dog owners who have arm, elbow, wrist or other injuries because the stretch in the leash provides a “give” that protects from sudden tugs and pulls. You’ll never have to worry about chasing your dog or losing your balance if your favorite canine decides to run after the neighbor’s cat or other animals.
