dog_fence_underground_fence_wire.JPG.jpgRich Weinssen, Owner of the Company, joins hosts Scott Sheppard and Lisa Gorman with tips on how to train your dog to stay in your yard. His company is a leader in advanced dog safety methods and they use the Pet Stop line of dog fence products in designing their solutions. Installed with a series of underground wires and a radio receiver collar, the dog will effectively learn to stay within the bounds of the property lines in approximately 7-10 days. Rather than using a “shock therapy” method, Rich’s solution applies a gentler approach with a very low collar pressure to reinforce good behavior.

For more information on the Company, visit http://www.hiddenfence.com in the NY/NJ area or visit http://www.petstop.com for other national installation companies.

Lisa and Scott review current dog news and story highlights of the week. This week features a story on a dog who was one of the first bionic paw implant operations. The implant for the prosthetic will allow for growth around the metal connection area and if proven successful, will be used to further development efforts for human amputees. Read more at “Six Million Dollar Dog” on www.coolest-gadgets.com. Next story discusses a Chihuahua who was able to rescue his family’s toddler from a potentially fatal snake bite.

Lisa delivers the Doggie Chronicles Tip of the Week with a tip that busts the myth of shaving your dog in hot weather months. Clipping your long haired dog is OK, but be careful not to shave too close to the skin as that can potentially cause more problems including sunburn. Stay alert for signs of overheating which include panting and irregular breathing. Be careful when walking your pet on pavement as the hot black top can actually burn your pet’s feet, stay on the grass areas when possible.

Whether it’s a love connection or a social gathering, K9 Connection puts together social and/or singles events that include a variety of fun activities for dogs and their people. The response from pet owners has been incredible as many consider their canines a great judge of character when meeting new people or potential mates.

canineAngie’s events are currently only available in the Minneapolis, MN area but hopefully will expand to other chapters nationwide soon. Organized event themes include; Speed Dating with your Dog!, Dog friendly Ice Cream Social, Beer with your Buddy, Perro Fiesta! (for Cinco de Mayo) and Luck of the Irish Yappy Hour (to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day).

front0605.jpgLisa and Scott review current dog news and story highlights of the week including a report about a toy dog who was attacked in a local dog park because the owner let them loose among larger breeds and was attacked. The toy pup died on the way to the hospital. Another interesting news story involves a pup who now has his own attorney representing him while relatives of his deceased owner ignore a $2 million estate payout to engage in a bitter battle over the dog’s custody.

Lisa delivers the Doggie Chronicles Tip of the Week about ensuring your dog’s safety while spending time in the dog park. If you don’t want to learn a lesson the hard way heed the signs posted in the park for special areas designated for large or small dogs. If it’s the first few times you’re taking your dog to the dog park, try to go a few times during the day when there are less dogs around to make sure your pup feels comfortable. If your dog is overtired, don’t hesitate to leave the park as that is a time when it’s easier for them to initiate or participate in dog fights. Finally, trust your own instincts if you think it’s time for you and your pet to leave don’t stick around hoping there won’t be any incidents.
