Brachycephalic or snub-nosed dogs such as bulldogs, pugs, Boston terriers, Lhasa apsos and shih tzus, as well as those with heart or lung diseases, should be kept cool in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible. Also, when walking your dog be alert and steer clear of wet areas that might contain insecticide or automotive fluids that may taste sweet to your pet. She is an author of 4 books, the behavior columnist for The New York Dog magazine and resident professional trainer and field correspondent for The Pet Department, FX’s Emmy award winning daily show about pets. Andrea’s appearances also include 20/20, The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelli, The View, Dateline NBC, CBS News, and CNN and others.

Andrea recommends that one of the most important things in training your dog is not to allow your own frustration to drive the delivery of how you correct your pet’s behavior. Patience, repetition, and consistency of requests and rewards will bring you the quickest and most effective results. She also discusses some tips on preparing your puppy for training class and how to choose a training method or class suited for your young pet.
